About the artist: Paul Leendertse

I was born in The Netherlands, where flat fields stretched endlessly toward the horizon and skies shifted with constant motion. In that landscape, long shadows moved slowly across the earth, and the meeting of land and sky was always present, always changing. Growing up in this environment taught me to see light as a living element and to recognize how atmosphere can shape memory just as strongly as place. The European landscape, with its layered history and subtle beauty, became the ground where my way of seeing first took root.

Over time, my work has been drawn to wilder, more untamed landscapes — places where mountains rise into silence, rivers carve their way through stone, and vast skies remain unbroken. These settings offer not only visual drama, but also emotional depth. They allow me to explore the tension between stillness and motion, between permanence and change. Through photography, I try to move beyond representation, distilling the essence of a place into a feeling. Each image becomes a reflection of both the land and the inner landscape it awakens — an invitation for the viewer to pause, breathe, and find resonance in the meeting of light, space, and memory.
